Have you tried every trick written in the beauty world – you wash your face two times, remove all make-up before bedtime, apply the best anti-aging cream to each area of your face and change your skincare products so often that by now, you have memorized every beauty brand by heart.
However, the sad truth is that nothing seems to work. What could be the reason? Do you need a crazy amount of money for complicated cosmetic procedures to restore your beauty? Or, do you have to resort to other extreme measures to make your skin smooth, radiant, and soft again?
Hold it!
More often, the problem lies in how we treat our skin, and over the years, we forget all about the bad skincare habits, which is why our skin doesn’t improve at all, but it gets worse as time passes.
Here are three bad skincare habits to avoid at all costs:
Scrub Too Often
The first mistake is that you use facial scrubs more than required. The job of a facial scrub is to exfoliate and cleanse the face and slough away dead skin cells while revealing the smooth-textured skin underneath. The tell-tale signs of too much exfoliation include stinging sensation, dryness, and flakiness.
Besides, you will notice that your skin is shiny and tight, and tingly. Proper exfoliation usually depends on one’s skin type. If your skin type falls somewhere between normal to combination, you ought to exfoliate no more than three times a week.
If your skin is oily, you are all good with exfoliating five times a week; however, it is recommended to exfoliate only twice a week for sensitive skin.
Relying on Anti-Wrinkle Creams Only
Another bad skincare mistake that many of us make is we use anti-wrinkle creams or serums and think that it is enough. Undeniably, anti-aging creams and serums can do wonders for our skin by reducing age spots and wrinkles.
Unfortunately, the only way to completely get rid of fine lines is to visit a good plastic/ cosmetic surgeon or opt for anti-aging skin fillers. By being proactive, you can also delay the appearance of age spots and fine lines by keeping your skin moisturized.
You might also want to stay out of the sun, keep hydrated, and apply sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher (depending on the climate of the region where you live) daily before leaving home.
Using a Towel on Your Face
Of course, drying your face after washing it is important; but, avoid doing it the wrong way. Using a towel on your face will only lead to skin damage. Besides, it could also inflame your skin and cause skin inflammation, acne and force bacteria into the deeper regions of the pores.
Instead of using a towel and rubbing your face with it, gently pat your face with the towel before leaving it to air dry. Also, avoid using the nearest bath or kitchen towel. Instead, use an organic cotton towel only for your face.
As you age, your skin loses its elasticity and fullness due to the loss of supporting structures. Treatments that use anti-aging dermal fillers involve injections that replace these structures with hyaluronic acid or other substances that are compatible with your skin.
