Five Tips to Safeguard Your Business Premises

No matter what type of business you own, you have to keep the security on the top. Without the necessary arrangements, your building can become a soft target for thieves. Criminals can harm your company and the staff, dropping the entire responsibility for any such mishap on your shoulders.

Securing your premises is a vital move to protect your assets and make your employees feel safe while working. So, you must carry out a security survey to identify the most vulnerable areas of your building and then devise a strategy to provide complete protection in the event of an attack.

You can, of course, ask the local police for some help. But, you must as well remain considerate of the following tips to reduce the risk and possibilities of crime in the first place –

  1. Inspect Locks

Your primary security point starts at the doors and windows. So, when you begin the audit of your premises, check the status of your locks. Make sure they are doing the job they have been installed for. Use deadlocks for external and front doors, shutters for windows, and high-security locks for internal doors, especially inventory rooms. Secure your cupboards and desk drawers too.

  •  Change Access Controls

There has to be a different access level for each employee depending on their scope of role and work. You cannot allow anyone or everyone to enter your confidential areas. Their access has to be limited and well-monitored to reduce the risk of theft. You also need to record who has been provided the keys or passes to access the room and storage areas.

  • Install CCTV Cameras

Surveillance cameras are highly effective ways to prevent thefts, especially the ones installed at the entrance and backside of the building. By looking at them, a malicious intended individual would become alarmed and understand that it wouldn’t be easy to sneak in, or else they would be caught. The camera models with remote viewing and motion detection are even better.

  • Use Alarm Systems

Alarm systems protect your property, including every employee and valuable inside. They are the perfect solutions to prevent shoplifting by customers at retail stores and theft by employees inside the premises. With clear evidence of an alarm system in your building, criminals wouldn’t take the risk of stealing anything. And even if anyone tries to enter, they wouldn’t be able to fulfill their evil motives.

  • Protect Your Stock and Equipment

It is essential to monitor your inventory and equipment carefully throughout the premises and allocate responsibility to staff. Organize and tag items, and record details of their serial numbers. Also, use locking systems for portable devices and keep your pricey tools under the surveillance of nighttime cameras. Invest in a commercial safe for hiding away confidential documentation and cash lying around.

But, keep in mind that all these measures will not be 100% successful without good lighting. Dark areas would let criminals intrude without being detected and make your employees feel unsafe during late working hours.
